How to Cleanse Your Crystals

Is there anything more exciting than getting crystals in the mail? I am always so excited to open packages of beautiful new crystals to send to our customers around the world. But beyond that, I am always looking for a new crystal to add to my personal collection, and it feels so good to bring them home! 

When you get a new crystal, you want to make the most of the energy, so cleansing and charging your crystal is probably one of the first things on your mind. 

If you are just starting out on your journey and not sure how to cleanse your crystals, here is a guide with 5 ways you can cleanse your crystals at home.  

How to Cleanse Crystals

Cleansing crystals is a practice that most crystal owners will swear by. When a crystal makes its way to you, it has passed through many hands and possibly, taken on many different energies. To make the most of the energy within that crystal, you want to cleanse off any added energies so you are left with just the energy of the crystal. 

There are numerous ways you can cleanse your crystal. Choose a method that works for you. Below are some ideas. 

1. Hold your crystal under running water

This is an easy way to cleanse your new crystal and doesn't take much prep work. However, it's important to know that not all crystals can go in water.  This is a great method for hard stones like quartz (Aventurine, Rose Quartz, Clear Quartz). 

Tap water works well, but a natural stream of water is even better! Hold the crystal under water for approximately 1 minute

*A good way to know if it can go in water is by the name of the crystal. If it ends in "ite" it probably cannot (Ex. Selenite, Kyanite, Angelite should not go in water)

2. Sunlight / Moonlight

Placing your crystal in sunlight is a beautiful way to cleanse the energy and recharge at the same time.  Place your crystal outside or by the window ledge at night, and remove in the morning around 10:30 / 11:00. It will cleanse and recharge under the moon while also benefiting from morning sun. 

If you are able to, place the stone directly onto the earth (grass, garden).

Stone's like Amethyst should avoid sunlight as much as possible, and careful with soft stones like selenite which can be affected by rainfall. 

3. Incense / Lavender Stick

Clearing the energy of your crystals can be done by lighting an incense or lavender cleansing stick and move the crystal through the smoke. It's important to have a firesafe incense holder or bowl nearby, and open a window to allow the energy to disperse. 

Repeat this for 30-60 seconds. 

4. Selenite

Selenite crystals are amazing in that they can cleanse/recharge other crystals. Simply place the crystal needing to be cleansed on top of the selenite, and let it sit there for 12-24 hours. This will balance the energy of your crystal back to it's natural state. 

5. Visualization

You can cleanse your crystals through visualization - and this is an effective and safe way to clear out any stagnant energy.  Start by grounding yourself, and taking a few deep, cleansing breaths. Calm your nervous system. 

Using both hands, hold your crystal in your open palms. Imagine your hands are filling with the most beautiful radiant white light.  The crystal is surrounding by the light, and as you visualize this begin to visualize the negative, impure energy being carried away out of the stone. The white light washes over it, filling it up with radiant, bright, beautiful energy.
